Tyson Gay vs Nesta Carter in Zabreg

Zagreb, Croatia – A 100m showdown between Tyson Gay and Nesta Carter, the year’s two fastest men, and Blanka Vlasic’s first homecoming of the week will take centre stage at the 60th edition of the Hanzekovic Memorial in Zagreb on Wednesday.

Both Gay, the U.S. record holder, and the rapidly-improving Carter will arrive in the Croatian capital for the final IAAF World Challenge Meeting of the season as the co-world leaders at 9.78. Gay’s performance came at the London Samsung Diamond League fixture on 13 August, which he nearly replicated in Brussels last Friday when he clocked 9.79 to capture the Diamond Race Trophy in the event.

Nesta Carter 9.78 !!!!!!!!

RIETI, Italy — Jamaican sprinter Nesta Carter has run 9.78 seconds in the 100 meters at the Rieti Grand Prix, tying American Tyson Gay for the fastest time this year.
Helped by a tail wind of 0.9, Carter used a strong finishing kick to lead an extremely fast field Sunday, with seven of the eight entrants clocking 10 seconds or under.
Ryan Bailey of the United States was the runner-up in a personal best 9.88, Mario Forsythe of Jamaica finished third in a personal best 9.95, and Christophe Lemaitre of France crossed fourth in a national record 9.97.
Gay ran 9.78 into a headwind on a wet track in London earlier this month.
Usain Bolt, who holds the world record of 9.58, and Asafa Powell, who set a then-world record of 9.74 in Rieti three years ago, are both out injured.

Thierry Henry's Confidence Issues

One would think that a player of Thierry's Caliber would find it rather easier to play in a league like MLS than he currently is . Form and Fitness can only be blamed for so much, but a player suffering from confidence issues can be poor despite his fitness level. If  a player looks lazy, leggy and awful with ball control, that is a form and fitness issue; however if a players looks good running at people and still has a bounce in his step, yet he continues to miss sitters, its a confidence issue. Henry was and still is one of the worlds best ball handling players, he takes on world class defenders leaving them in the dust no problems in and out of season. His finishing has been also one of his better assets, how else would you explain his goal scoring ratio?
Henry has not been playing regular soccer for over 6 months after suffering injury early in the 2009 season.

Ivory Coast Hires a Homer (Francois Zahoui)

Blessed with all the talent an international squad could ever need, the west African nation has struggled to capitalize on all its on paper prowess under foreign coaches. With the failure of the last world cup Ivory coast turns to a homer for the next step and guidance to prominence on the African continent.
Constant bickering by fans and outsiders suggested that african teams needed african coaches who understand the culture and the players in order to succeed, Ivory Coast took the first step towards that by hiring Francois Zahoui

Rafa Marquez to Redbull almost Official

According to ESPN Deportes, Mexican National Rafael Marquez is 75% sure to sign with NYRB of MLS
MLS sources confirmed to ESPN that Rafael Marquez will be in New York to negotiate with the Red Bulls and the chances of signing with this team are 75 percent. To make the pass, Marquez debuted on Thursday, 22 against Tottenham in the summer tournament you're playing Red Bulls, or Sunday 25 against Manchester City.
Marquez will add that bite in the middle of the park, something the Redbulls lack. He also brings that leadership quality needed to command a midfield effective enough to win championships. If this transfer pans out New York will overnight become of the most feared teams in the MLS. Lets hope for the sake of RBNY these players are lined up properly and managed effectively.

Update Univsion reports that Rafael Marquez will be introduced within hrs  ................ I'll keep you posted.

Blame it on Backe (NYRB Inconsistency)

The Redbulls have been an enigma this season. For one they have never looked like a smooth team outside of a few Open Cups games played by rookies and bench warmers. The Starters are absolutely clueless on the ball. No skill, no technical ability, no zeal, no will, no spine, they  look terrible to be honest. Its quite baffling that Angel has managed 9 goals this season with a midfield of that quality playing behind him, thats the mark of a classy player.
The Redbulls midfield usually consist of Estonian addition Joel Lindpere, Seth Stammler,  Sinisa Ubiparipovic and Dane Richards. The sad thing is that neither of these guys are very good with the ball at their feet. Sinisa Ubiparipovic is the expception proving to be a formidable passer whenever he plays a central role. Lately Hans Backe has opted to play him on  the wings where he's a none factor for the most part. Joel Lindpere has been living off his first two games of the season where  he scored two stunning goals to start. Outside of those instances he's looked average, he really does nothing special for the team  except a few threatening runs that usually amount to nothing. Seth Stammler is the long range man, shoots from distance and scores .0002 percent of the time, he messes up on his passing and lacks the leadership needed to be an effective Deep Midfield Player .  Dane Richards is the speedy 15th cousin of Usain Bolt that dribbles into the opponent, looses the ball, then jogs back as if nothing happened, yet he starts nearly every game as long as he's fit to play.
This combination in the Redbull midfield will only doom this team. They have been lucky for the most part this season and is only sitting in second place due to a weak Eastern Conference.
Can this be fixed with the players currently on roster? Maybe not but things could certainly look better, I live in the NY area and watch them whenever I get the chance to. The best the Redbull have looked this season is when the team has rookie Tony Tchani manning the middle partnered with Sinisa Ubiparipovic. He's not great but he's better than all the redbull have to offer in the the central midfield position , Joel Linpere Included. He needs a bit of experience but that can only come with time on the pitch and the confidence of his trainer. Irvin Garcia has been full of spark and looked very technical the few times i saw him come in as a sub and played in Open Cup games. Hans Backe has claimed that the rookie is too raw and is prone to mistakes. I cannot fathom a player more more raw and mistake prone than Dane Richards. I believe with the current batch of players this team is better served with a five man midfield that transforms in to a 4-2-1-3 .
To the point, what combination of players do i think would give the Redbulls the best chance of controlling possession of the ball and threatening the defense of opponents?

------------------------Juan Pablo Angel--------------------

--Joel Lindpere---------Thiery Henry---------Mac Kandji--

--------------Carl Robinson----------Tony Tchani---------

Borman-----------Ream----------Mendez---------Albright

-------------------------Condoul--------------------------

Until the Redbull acquire a good Central Midfielder that controls the tempo of the game, their best option is to stack the midfield with the most technically gifted players they have and try to stifle the opponents attack while they control possession of the ball. Hans Backe's 4-4-2 system does not work with the current batch of players.
The 4-4-2 formation is going out of style and being replaced with the 4-5-1 that transforms into a 4-3-3 . Currently the best teams in the world employ this formation, Inter Milan, Barcelona, Real Madrid, The Netherlands, Germany, Uruguay , Spain, on and on. In order to have an effective 4.-4-2 formation you must have a combination of central midfielders that are techically gifted enough to control the tempo of the game coupled with wingers who can make effective runs spreading out the game while whipping in good crosses.  Seth Stammler, Joel Linpere, Sanisa , and Richards are not these players. The comibnation of Stammler and Lindpere are not Technically gifted enough to control ball possession, Dane Richard is not intelligent enough to make the correct runs but why run when you are getting no service down the flanks ? Sanisa is usless as a wide player , he cannot cross and he has no speed so that makes no sense.
Redbull fans should be real and stop thinking that they have a really good team, they are benefiting from a poor eastern conference plain and simple .  The Crew is the only team in this conference consistent enough to challenge for the title.  If the Redbulls plan on making a 2008 style run  they will need to get this down . They are half way through the season and still do not have a consistent starting eleven.

Raul or Ronaldinho ?

Speculation Speculation , MLS has been buzzing all week with the transfer window opening and multiple international stars rumored to make the move State side. NY has signed French Legend Henry and are awaiting the arrival of another Designated Player rumored to be between Rafael Marquez, Edmilson or Aregentine Maestro Juan Roman Riquelme . Then comes even more head raising rumors from the mouth of an even more reputable source. Dave Checketts Owner of MLS Champions Real Salt Lake Hints .
"I expect, by the way, Major League Soccer to make another announcement in the next couple of days about another very big world superstar coming to our league," Checketts told radio station KALL 10 Sports. "Not to our team - I don't want to mislead anybody - but another one of our teams is going to make a major investment and that will be a big announcement in the next couple of days.
"I would imagine that this guy's coming to L.A. [Galaxy] and you'll all recognize who he is."
With a source such as  Dave Checketts this rumor puts on an expensive coat leaving us only to speculate knowing for sure something will happen . Ronaldinho has been on the LA Galaxy's radar for quite some time so have Raul Gonzalez the Real Madrid Legend .
Dave Checketts also hinted that the player may be Brazilian which ads more fire to the Ronaldinho Rumors .

Edmilson To NY Redbulls

Rumors of biblical proportions have been spreading across the internet regarding the supposed third designated player, the NY MLS franchise will be signing.

Its a bird !!! its a plane!!!! no is Rafael Marquez!!!! Its a bird !!! its a plane!!!! no is Freddy Ljunberg!!!! , wrong  Eric Soler the General Manager of the NY ruled out any player currently plying their trade in MLS.
Solér wasn't positive the player would be available for next week’s exhibition New York Football Challenge tournament, and downplayed the potential signing’s availability. He did, however, give a slight hint about the possible target.
“The guy is not in MLS at the moment," Solér told MLSsoccer.com with a smirk. "But he is playing somewhere in the world.” mlssoccer.com
Rafael Marquez is not very well liked in America by American fans at least, add to that  he has received offers from top clubs in Europe including Juventus. Now go ahead and figure out where he'll be going this season.
According to good sources out of Europe that signing will be washed up Brazilian and former Barcelona middle man Edmilson. The central midfielder has been bouncing around ever since his exit from Barcelona in 2008. Making stops at storied clubs Villareal, Palmeiras of Brazil and recently at struggling Spanish Club Real Zaragoza.  Edmilson was a very strong holding midfielder manning that championship Barcelona team 3 years ago along with Deco and Andres Iniesta while Xavi struggled with injuries. The Brazilian has been capped multiple times for his national team winning the 2002 world playing along with famed stars Ronaldinho, Rivaldo and  the phenomenon Ronaldo . The verdict remains out as to if Edmilson can still play top level football; however MLS is another ball park. Though a physical league MLS is still a fairly young league that could prove to be a good place for Edmilson to find his Mojo back.
The traveling man is currently negotiating his way out of his contract with Real Zaragoza to join Henry in NY where they are trying to build a championship side.

Henry In The Big Apple

 Henry Spread today's NY TIMES
The french wizard has officially been signed by the NYRB this wednesday July 14  2010.
Henry will be MLS most recognized face this season followed by LA's Landon Donovan . The Former Arsenal Legend is keen on helping the New York franchise realize its dream of winning its first MLS Championship. Lets hope this turns out better than that Beckham experiment for the sake of MLS. I actually like this league Its not La Liga or Serie A but its a fitting cousin to the overrated Premiership.
"Some people might think I am going to go there for vacation I do actually go there for vacation but it won't be for vacation this time," Henry said in a video interview on the club website. "I'm a competitor and I don't like to lose. I am not going to say we are going to win every single game or we are going to win everything."

Happy camping Mr Henry ,

Asafa Powell: The Definition of Chicken.

Asafa Powell, has a long list of none achievements, an even longer list of disappointments.
Who is Asafa ? He's the son of a Preacher, the brother of a sprinter Donovan Powell and a nice guy to people who know him. Asafa is a revolutionary to all who know anything about track and field, no other sprinter in history has gone under 10 seconds more than that of Mr Powell. He's the first and still the only man in History to successfully break the 9.8 barrier twice in one day . He broke his own world record of 9.77 secs running 9.74 easing up the last 15 meters then 9.78 just over an hour later.
This Mr Powell is the same guy that inspired a nation of quality Jamaican Athletes. His exploits on the European circuit set off an onslaught by his fellow Jamaicans. Asafa was a celebrity of the highest regard in his homeland of Jamaica inspiring hit songs and covered billboards on Highways. He was the man. Powell disappointed his fans in 2004 after an abysmal showing at the Athens Olympic games where he finished 5th after being touted as the odds on favorite. This transgression he was forgiven of, as his faithful fans continued to embrace him and cheer him on . An inspired Powell with the intent to prove his doubters wrong, ran a personal best and world record of 9.77 secs the following year. After suffering injury he missed the world championships and a chance to fully redeem himself.
2007 was the year to get it done and put away his demons but again Mr Powell failed to live up to the billing . He could plead the excuse of coming off an injury but anyone who watched that race could tell he was the best athlete on the track . He handed the World title to American rising star Tyson Gay with a time of 9.85 secs, a time Powell runs without thought. Powell literally got frightened and chickened out of the race giving up even the silver medal to A guy who is no where in his class.
These are the reasons many doubt Powell, these are the reasons many ridicule Powell, these the reasons many ignore the possibility of him wining when it counts. Asafa is a bookies best friend,  they know for sure he will loose when challenged.
Need i even mention Beijing China? where he was assured of a silver medal at the least but somehow ended up in 5th place..... Again!!! . Its quite baffling the record of such a renown sprinter isn't it ?  2009 was a difficult year for Powell , for the first time since 2006 Asafa failed to run below 9.8 secs . He missed eight weeks of training with a bothersome ankle injury .Even with the troublesome injury Powell managed a 3rd place finish Behind American Tyson Gay and his fellow Countryman Usain Bolt  with a time of 9.84 secs.  This was Powells best ever run in a final , funny enough 9.84 was the world record up until 1999, this alone should let you know how talented this man is.  Its disappointing to even non Jamaicans to watch such a blessed individual fail to fully realize his potential .
2010 now the fail of all fails in my opinion, this is the first year in a long time Powell had no complaints about injuries and was looking to be the cream of the crop again running stellar times in the IAAF's Diamond League.  He had the world lead along with Usain Bolt of 9.82 secs and the type of momentum many sprinters dream of . His much hyped clash with Tyson Gay in Gateshead England was supposed to be his moment to bury an injured Tyson Gay and Stamp his mark on the season . This was not realized as a complacent Powell allowed the ever threatening Gay to nip him at the line . A powerful headwind of -1.8 prevented us from being treated with what could have been very good times on a very fast track. Gay won the event with a seasons best of 9.94 secs followed by Powell with a time of 9.96 secs.  Even non Jamaicans were baffled, reviewing the tape clearly shows that Powell relaxed at around the 70m mark which allowed a fast finishing Tyson Gay to clip him at the line .
These were the remarks made by Powell following the event .
"I don't feel that bad. I was pushing through to the line and started to ease up a bit too much. I think I forgot it was Tyson Gay out there. In the last 20 – 30m I should have ran differently. But he's a great sprinter and I gave him a chance. I didn't see him coming. Next time I will. I got a great start but I need a strong finish too. Next time I will step it up. I relaxed too soon and he got me on the tape. It's no set back though because I know what shape I'm in. I know I'll be ready for Bolt next week. I ran 9.96 in a headwind so that's pretty good "
How can you not feel bad after loosing a race to your main rival who is injured and was yet to run a 100m event all year?  Powell clearly has mental problems that his coach has failed to deal with , He needs a new approach to this event if he is to ever win anything of substance in his pet event . Next years 2011 World championship is Powell's last chance to grab a hold of that coveted Gold Medal he needs to solidify himself as one of the all time greats.
Asafa means to rise to the occasion and up to this day Mr Powell has yet to do his name justice . Asafa its time to put up or shut up .

Luis Fabiano Wants Ibrahimovic Money ?

There is no doubt Luis Fabiano is a fabulous athlete. His record at the international level speaks for itself; however at club level the story is different . Fabiano was touted as the new Ronaldo by a few foolhardy folks in Brazil following his formidable displays at Sao Paulo, the pie was then bought by even more foolhardy fans of Fabiano . Ronaldo is without doubt  a living legend, the greatest striker of the modern era and possibly of all time . Fabiano on the other hand has struggled to live up to the hype at his La Liga Club Sevilla.  The Brazillian striker was on a tear throughout the 2007-2008 season scoring 34 goals in all competition . He was second with 24 goals in the Spanish league .
This stat would have us think Fabiano was finally coming in to his own; however he then went back to his average old self . Fabiano like many other strikers will enjoy a good run of form but the class required to be consistent is not within them. I am of the belief that Mr Fabulouso has greatly benefited from the extraordinary talents of his fellow Brazilian countrymen allowing him to score consistently on the international stage. These stats could confuse even he himself who now thinks he's worthy of a salary on par with Superstars like Didier Drogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
The Melo striker is being courted by the Tottenham's boss Harry Rednap who recently had these words to say .
Redknapp told Soccernet in an exclusive interview: "Yes, I like him. He's a fabulous player and would be a brilliant addition to any team.
For sure, he is a class act, but I don't know what he earns. He might be on mega money, so it might prove to be impossible for us.
So what mega money is Mr Rednap talking about ?
Fabiano's agent, Luis Fuentes, revealed last month that the striker expects to move on but intimated that Fabiano would expect wages on the same level as the likes of Didier Drogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic
What ???
Not to put Drogba and Zlatan way above  the rest, but these guys are superstar strikers who carry teams on their backs in the best leagues in the world. These are players who consistently scores more than 25 goals per season . Fabiano is not on the level of these players !!! . Now some may disagree with me but prove if you can why Fabiano should be demanding salaries on par with these men.

RBNY GM Soler confident of adding a 3rd star; is it Rafa Marquez?

Red Bull GM Erik Soler met with the media before tonight's game vs. D.C. United. And even though he steadfastly avoided using the words Thierry and Henry, he expressed excitement at unveiling a world class star Thursday _ and said he expected to add a third Designated Player as well.

"It's exciting,'' Soler said. "Getting top-quality experienced players, it's obviously going to help us continuing what looks like as decent year for the club. We're all very excited about the fact that we're going to get a good player in. then we'll have to take it from there and see. I think he'll lift the whole team, make everybody sharper and better. I think it's going to be a great experience for us.''

The Red Bulls attendance is up 48 percent from last year, over 16,000; but Soler said he thought adding their second Designated Player _ who will be revealed as Henry at a Thursday press conference _ will boost the team's profile, brand and gate dramatically.

"I think the first player that we get in will get a lot of attention. It’s a huge name and people will come to watch him play,'' Soler said. "The team will play the kind of soccer that will get people back in the stadium. Then we'll get another one after that will help us as well.''

While Henry is all but signed sealed and delivered, the Red Bulls failed in acquiring all of their creative midfielder targets, their No. 10-types. But head coach Hans Backe said they were aiming for a defensive midfielder, and Soler termed that second acquisition as likely.

"There's one player coming first. I said before the World Cup I thought it would be two; I think it's going to be two. But we’ll start with one,'' said Soler. When I asked how he would deem their odds, he replied "I think it's more than 50-50.

"We've gone far in the negotiations, so we're all more or less ready to sign. But nothing is signed. When things are not signed, they are not signed. But we are very hopeful. But we will take the first one first.''

Mexican National Team star Rafa Marquez has long been rumored to be a Red Bull target, and the Daily Harrison reported that he is likely to be that third DP, joining Henry and captain Juan Pablo Angel.

Marquez was Henry's teammate at Barcelona, but when both of them saw their playing time cut they got released from their contracts; and Soler had said the other player had worked his way out of his existing deal. When asked if the second player had played with the first (meaning Henry), Soler replied "no comment on that.''

Marquez has been a centerback for Mexico, but has always been known to play defensive midfield at Barcelona and was a revelation there for El Tri during this World Cup. When I asked if the hopeful Designated Player had played centerback, Soler said "he can play in various positions.''

Backe served as an assistant on the Mexican National Team, and would've been very familiar with Marquez from his time at El Tri. When I asked Soler if Backe's familiarity with the player from international duty helped in the recruitment, he said with a straight face "I don’t understand the question.'' When I repeated it, he smiled and said "I have no comment to that.''

Head referee: 96 percent of calls correct

Associated PressDERDEPOORT, South Africa -- Despite complaints about game-changing mistakes and FIFA's agreement to revisit how technology can help officials, the head of refereeing for soccer's governing body says that the World Cup has been a success.
Jose Maria Garcia-Aranda said Saturday that an analysis of the first 62 matches showed referees got more than 96 percent of their decisions right.
"It is a big success," the Spanish official said at a news briefing. "We have to say it is not an opinion [but] facts."
We are not hiding our mistakes or the mistakes of the referees on the field of play
FIFA acknowledged that referees made errors, though in "only a few" matches.
"We are not hiding our mistakes or the mistakes of the referees on the field of play," Garcia-Aranda said in a robust defense of FIFA's officiating program.
World Cup final referee Howard Webb agreed that mistakes had been made but said they were largely isolated.
"There is no point us sitting here as match officials and saying everything is absolutely perfect," said the 38-year-old Englishman, who is one of the few professional referees among the 29 FIFA selected for World Cup duty.
"But it's also right to point out that the vast majority of decisions have been very sound and very correct."
Referees were widely criticized after a series of mistakes in the first half of the tournament.
In the group stage, the United States was denied a likely winning goal late in its game against Slovenia, then a Brazil goal against Ivory Coast was allowed to stand despite two apparent handballs by Luis Fabiano leading up to it. Brazil's Kaka was ejected later in the same match when it appeared he and an Ivory Coast player collided accidentally.
The pressure was stepped up after errors by assistant referees affected the outcome of two second-round games. FIFA will revisit proposals to introduce goal-line technology in response to England being denied a clear goal, which would have tied its match against Germany 2-2 late in the first half. Germany went on to win 4-1.
Italian referee Roberto Rosetti has retired, three years before reaching the mandatory age to step down from duty, after he missed an offside call that allowed Argentina to score its first goal against Mexico. The Argentines went on to win, 3-1.
FIFA did not award control of another match to any of the four referees involved in the main controversies.
Garcia-Aranda said all of the errors have been studied carefully, and the referees' 96 percent accuracy rate favorably with the success of players taking penalty kicks.
Just nine of 15 penalties awarded during matches have been scored, a 60 percent accuracy rate.
"I think the refereeing in this tournament has been more than good," Garcia-Aranda said.

Gay clips Powell at the Line in Gateshead

July 10, 2010 Diamond League  Mens 100m
American Champion Tyson Gay's never say die attitude pays dividends once more. The man many call Mr Top End Speed clips Powell at the line to take the Diamond League even in 9.94 seconds running into a -1.7 Headwind.
Powell as usually got the better start and moved away from the pack by the 50 meter mark, Thinking he had the race won he shuts down foolishly giving the race to  an onrushing Tyson Gay .
I ran 9.96 in a headwind so that's pretty good "
Powell claims conceding the loss to Gay

Asafa Powell 'I'll be very fast' Powell VS GAY

GATESHEAD, England (AP) — Asafa Powell is promising a fast time when he runs against Tyson Gay in the 100 metres at today's Diamond League meet in Gateshead.

Returning to the track where he equalled his former world-record time of 9.77 seconds in 2006, the Jamaican hopes to send a message to current record holder and reigning Olympic and world champion Usain Bolt.

Bolt ran 9.82 in the 100 in Lausanne, Switzerland, on Thursday, equalling Powell for the fastest time this year.

"I'll be as fast as I want. I'll be very fast," Powell said yesterday.

When Powell ran at Gateshead four years ago, he was experiencing a dip in form but this time he is better prepared.

"Equalling the world record here was a major confidence boost for me," Powell said. "When I came here in 2006 I was running slow times — 9.90, 10.00. But this is the best I've ever started a season."

Powell and Bolt are expected to face each other at the Paris Diamond League meet on July 16, with the level of competition leading to talk of a world-record time

Dunga's old grudge proved costly .

Following his omission from Brazil's last friendly match before the 30-player World Cup provisional roster deadline, Ronaldinho said this:
I will go to the World Cup, and I will win it. Recently, I have had problems with the national team, but it hasn’t been my fault. I can’t imagine a World Cup without Ronaldinho on the field.
“It seems impossible to me when I think of not playing. I feel bad, really bad. Therefore, I can safely say I will make my country proud in the World Cup and, above all—with my teammates—I’ll win it.

Despite the words of a man motivated to do great things this summer in south Africa Dunga the non tradition Brazilian coach omitted Ronaldinho from his squad . This would lead some to speculate that the exploits of a then 19yr old Ronaldinho still rings aloud in the head of Former player Dunga (see this clip). Danny Jordaan implied that Dunga has been blinded by power
With the early exit of world number one Brazil and the failure of Dunga's Golder man Kaka to ignite the stagnant none Samba attack one can only wonder what could have been. The omission of star players from the squads of  failing world cup teams such as France, Italy and Brazil   left a lot to be desired and disappointment became the language of many.

Even in Sports certain realities remain true, the exploits of power stricken mad men never wins the wars. A mind clouded by emotions and personal instincts rather than Knowledge and Logic is a mind out of control.adidas Ronaldinho AC Milan Long Sleeve Home Replica Soccer Jersey 09/10

David Beckham Wants Spain to win .

If you could ask David Beckham one question, what would it be? Post your question here for the chance to have it answered when The World Interviews David Beckham LIVE, exclusively on Yahoo! on July 14th.
It promises to be a great game on Sunday, featuring two of the greatest footballing nations never to have won the World Cup. Spain and the Netherlands have been playing the most attractive football of all the teams in this World Cup, which bodes well ahead of the final.
The Netherlands has always been a great attacking team over the years with players like Cruyff and Van Basten. This current side is no different, with match winners like Robben, Van Persie, and Sneijder. This time round they have been very solid in defense, too, with every player working really hard for the team.
I expect the current European champions, Spain, to have plenty of possession. Xavi, Iniesta, and Alonso are so important to the midfield, and they retain possession and pick out passes with ease. I've also been impressed with their defense in this tournament, but they have quality all over the pitch. David Villa will want to not only win the World Cup but the Golden Boot as well.

Pato For Ibra - Says Barcelona

Barcelona are understood to be exploring the possibility of signing Milan striker Alexandre Pato as part-exchange for Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The Spanish champions are willing to let the Swedish striker leave the club for a fee of around €35 million but with the player not keen on a move to Premier League suitors Manchester City, a deal with the Rossoneri may be the more likely scenario.

Milan are known to have doubts about signing the Swede who commands an annual salary of €12 million and Sport reports that the Serie A outfit are exploring the possibility of selling one of their top earners, either Ronaldinho or Pato, to facilitate a move for Ibra.

This may play into Barca's hands in trying to sign the 20-year-old Brazilian as a cash-plus Pato deal for Ibrahimovic may suit all parties.

Ibrahimovic is said to no longer be part of coach Pep Guardiola's plans at Camp Nou and although Fernando Torres and Robinho have also been linked with the club, it appears that a part exchange deal with Milan may see the Blaugrana avoid major expenditure

Rafa Marquez to join the Red Bulls

Hey Everybody, I am back from my World Cup induced break and have a bit of news to share. Although it is pretty much common knowledge that Thierry Henry will be joining Metro as a designated player this summer (announcement seems pegged for July 14th, or Bastille Day if you are French) it looks like he will not be the only big ticket signing for the team. The search for a "number 10", a creative attacking midfielder, continues but it New York is poised to bolster its defense. Word on the street is Mexican central defender Rafa Marquez will be joining the team as another designated player.

Often portrayed as a villain to American fans due to his central role in the Mexican national team, Marquez is likely to be a popular figure with Mexicans in the area. He is 31 years old, and although he has certainly slowed down a bit he still manages to find a spot on both for Mexico (which he captains) and Barcelona. He is currently in contract with Barcelona so he would either have to be bought out or let go, and I still don't have details from his upcoming contract. Although not definite, this is looking extremely likely. More details to follow.

PS: Rumors of a 3rd big signing are also circulating. This is getting exciting.

Lebron loves the Heat

Self titled King of the court Lebron all eyes on me James announced to the world on Thursday night his decision to follow fellow free agents Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh to the Heat of Miami.
The much anticipated decision came as a surprise to no one. News of Lebrons Party on the beaches of Miami was already leaked prompting experts to put 2 and 2 together. With the support of Wade and Bosh, Lebron will in the eyes of many finally find his way to the title in the coming season.

I'm still the best

Shell Is not a Drug Cheat

Former world 100m record holder Asafa Powell has jumped to the defence of Shelly-Ann Fraser, who returned a positive test, saying his club-mate is not a drug cheat.

"She didn't cheat. She took some painkillers, which is something different," said Powell on Friday.

Fraser, the World and Olympic 100m Champion, was tested for Oxycodone, at the Shanghai Diamond League meeting on May 23, which though considered a minor offence, could lead to a three-month ban.

Powell said he did not understand why a drug that did not enhance performance, should be prohibited in the first place.

"If it doesn't help you to perform well, then I don't think it should be on the list," he said.

Fraser will now face the Jamaica Amateur Athletic Association (JAAA) disciplinary panel to determine her case.

Tyson Gay Vs Asafa Powell

Track and field fans will be treated to a spectacle tomorrow in Gateshead England . Asafa Powell the most in form sprinter on the circuit this season, will face off against American record holder and second fastest man of all time Tyson Gay.
This race promises to be a cracker with Powell's scintillating form and Tyson Gay's never say die attitude going at each other . These two have matched up quite a number of times with Gay have a slight edge , some would argue that the stats does no justice to Powell who was injured for the majority of the 2009 season where he was beaten by Gay a number of times.
