Former world 100m record holder Asafa Powell has jumped to the defence of Shelly-Ann Fraser, who returned a positive test, saying his club-mate is not a drug cheat.
"She didn't cheat. She took some painkillers, which is something different," said Powell on Friday.
Fraser, the World and Olympic 100m Champion, was tested for Oxycodone, at the Shanghai Diamond League meeting on May 23, which though considered a minor offence, could lead to a three-month ban.
Powell said he did not understand why a drug that did not enhance performance, should be prohibited in the first place.
"If it doesn't help you to perform well, then I don't think it should be on the list," he said.
Fraser will now face the Jamaica Amateur Athletic Association (JAAA) disciplinary panel to determine her case.
