Rafa Marquez to join the Red Bulls

Hey Everybody, I am back from my World Cup induced break and have a bit of news to share. Although it is pretty much common knowledge that Thierry Henry will be joining Metro as a designated player this summer (announcement seems pegged for July 14th, or Bastille Day if you are French) it looks like he will not be the only big ticket signing for the team. The search for a "number 10", a creative attacking midfielder, continues but it New York is poised to bolster its defense. Word on the street is Mexican central defender Rafa Marquez will be joining the team as another designated player.

Often portrayed as a villain to American fans due to his central role in the Mexican national team, Marquez is likely to be a popular figure with Mexicans in the area. He is 31 years old, and although he has certainly slowed down a bit he still manages to find a spot on both for Mexico (which he captains) and Barcelona. He is currently in contract with Barcelona so he would either have to be bought out or let go, and I still don't have details from his upcoming contract. Although not definite, this is looking extremely likely. More details to follow.

PS: Rumors of a 3rd big signing are also circulating. This is getting exciting.
